Great experience! They were extremely responsive and came out very quickly. I explained the urgency of getting my window replaced, and he showed up with his team and took care of everything right away. The job was completed before I even finished a work call! Fast, professional, and reliable. Highly recommended, and I would definitely call them again.

Had window sills replaced as well as the bottom of my slider replaced which had rotted away after forty years. The work was completed just before the nor’easter and they came through with flying colors! They look just like our other window sills which did not require replacement and our slider works like new and all for a fraction of the price to replace. Very pleased with the work done!

This service was outstanding! The technician who came into the house was highly skilled and polite. He took his shoes off before entering the house. He replaced the window with very minimal use of tools. There was no hammering. No mess. He sealed the new window very carefully. He dust-busted afterwards to make sure there was no dust or debris left. He and the tech on the outside of the house took time to clean the new window so there were no labels or smudges of any kind. Another service quoted me a price that was 20% higher and said that they would have to knock out the entire bay window. Prestige replaced only the section that needed new glass, which was very quick and painless. Took 30 mins for the whole process. I would give them 10 stars!

Sidelight Glass Replacement in Pocantico Hills, NY

Most sidelight glass jobs are straightforward: a cracked clear pane, a failed IGU seal, a fogged panel that needs a new unit. This Pocantico Hills job had an additional layer – the sidelights flanking this white entry door carry a decorative leaded diamond pattern, and the replacement glass had to integrate correctly with the existing lead caming without disturbing the surrounding panels or the door itself.

The before photo shows the entry door from outside: two tall narrow sidelights with matching leaded diamond glass panels, one panel compromised. The after photo shows both sidelights restored with new glass installed – protective blue film still on the surface, the decorative leaded pattern consistent across both panels, the white door frame completely untouched. The entryway looks exactly as it should.

Prestige Window and Door Repair has been serving Pocantico Hills and Westchester County since 2014. With over 10 years handling sidelight glass replacement across the region, decorative and leaded panel work requires a different approach than standard residential glass replacement – and getting it wrong means a mismatched entryway that is immediately visible to anyone approaching the front door.

Is Decorative Sidelight Replacement Different From Standard Glass Work?

A clear IGU replacement is a specification exercise: match the dimensions, match the glass type, install correctly. A decorative leaded sidelight adds a third variable – the visual pattern within the glass itself must be consistent with the adjacent panel and, where both panels are being replaced, consistent with each other.

The diamond lead caming pattern on these Pocantico Hills sidelights is a traditional residential design common across Westchester County’s colonial and traditional housing stock. The lead lines are set into the glass panel face rather than being a separate decorative overlay – which means the replacement glass must be sourced or fabricated to match the original pattern geometry. Installing a clear IGU where decorative glass should be, or a decorative pattern that doesn’t match the surviving panel, produces an entryway that reads as patched rather than restored.

This is why decorative sidelight and stained glass work is handled differently at Prestige Window and Door Repair than a standard glass replacement call. Pattern matching, lead caming assessment, and sourcing the correct decorative unit are all part of the scope before installation begins.

How the Pocantico Hills Sidelight Replacement Was Done

The damaged panel was removed from the door frame channel. The lead caming at the panel perimeter was assessed – in a decorative leaded sidelight, the caming is the structural element that holds the glass pattern together and integrates with the door frame, so its condition determines whether the repair scope is glass-only or glass-and-caming. For this Pocantico Hills project the caming was sound and was retained throughout.

The replacement glass was sourced to match the original diamond pattern and installed into the existing lead caming frame. The panel was reinstalled in the door frame channel and the perimeter caulk was refreshed at the frame junction. The door’s operation and weatherstrip contact were verified after the panel was seated.

THE MOST POPULAR QUESTIONS

Can a decorative leaded sidelight be replaced without replacing the whole door or frame?
Yes. The glass panel sits within the lead caming, which in turn sits within the door frame channel. If the caming and frame are sound, only the glass is replaced. The door, hardware, and frame are completely untouched. This is the correct scope for the vast majority of decorative sidelight damage.
Does the replacement glass need to match the decorative pattern of the existing sidelight?
Yes - particularly when only one panel is being replaced and the adjacent panel survives intact. A mismatched pattern is immediately visible on a front entryway. We assess the existing pattern before sourcing the replacement and confirm the match before installation begins.
What is lead caming and does it need to be replaced along with the glass?
Lead caming is the structural lead channel system that holds individual glass pieces together in a decorative panel. It is assessed separately from the glass - if the caming is structurally sound it is retained and reused with the new glass. Replacement is only needed when the caming has separated at joints, is structurally compromised, or has been damaged by the same event that broke the glass.
How long does decorative sidelight glass replacement take in Westchester County?
Standard decorative panel replacement with an in-stock matching unit is typically completed in a single visit. Custom-fabricated panels for unusual or historic patterns require a sourcing lead time that we confirm at the estimate visit.
Do you replace decorative sidelights across all of Westchester County?
Yes. Pocantico Hills, Tarrytown, Pleasantville, Mamaroneck, Larchmont, and the wider Westchester area. Call 203.948.4777 for a free on-site estimate.
